What is a high pressure fuel pump?

The high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) represents a pivotal component in direct injection gasoline engines, responsible for generating and sustaining the extremely elevated fuel pressure of approximately 2,000-3,000 psi essential for proper atomization and direct injection into the combustion chambers. This electrically powered, robust pump serves three key functions: supplying the necessary elevated pressure, regulating consistent fuel pressure for optimal performance, and delivering sufficient flow to fulfill engine demands.
